It is the modality that allows by means of single registration before the European Union Intellectual Property Office, EUIPO, based in Alicante, a uniform protection of a distinctive sign in all EU Member States.
The European Union trademark registration procedure allows for the protection of more than one class of goods and services and includes a Formal Examination and an Official Examination on absolute grounds for refusal.
A European Union trademark (EUTM) is valid for 10 years. It can be renewed indefinitely, for 10 years at a time.
It allows the filing of different kinds of trademarks such as graphic, three-dimensional, moving or pattern trademarks, among others.
